Women’s Worlds Rosters Take Shape

With the 2022 Women’s World’s just a week away, the rosters are starting to take shape. The competition will take place between August 25th and September 4th in the Kingdom of Denmark at rinks in Herning and Frederikshavn.

Group A consists of Canada, Finland, Japan, Switzerland and the United States and will occur at the Kvik Hockey Arena in Herning along with the medal games.

Group B consists of host Denmark as well as Czechia, Germany, Hungary, and Sweden and will occur at Iscenter Nord in Frederikshavn.

The powerhouse teams of Canada and the United States have built extremely familiar rosters consisting of Olympians and are expected to be the teams ready to compete for the gold medal in Herning. The U.S. roster consists of 18 Olympians including goalies Nicole Hensley and Maddie Rooney as well as forwards Hilary Knight, Amanda Kessel, Kendall Coyne Schofield and Hayley Scamurra. Similarly, the Canadians are also fielding 18 Olympians including Meaghan Mikkelson, Jocelyne Larocque, Marie-Philip Poulin, Erin Ambrose and goaltenders Ann-Renée Desbiens, Emerance Maschmeyer.

However, don’t count out Finland in their attempt to dethrone the North American clubs in attempt to claim their first gold medal. Finland also has a roster loaded with Olympians including goaltenders Meeri Räisänen and Anni Keisala as well as Jenni Hiirikoski, Michelle Karvinen, Susanna Tapani and Petra Nieminen.

Host Denmark will face off against Scandinavian neighbor and rival, Sweden, to kick off the tournament on August 25th in Frederikshavn. There is going to be plenty of star power on display from the United States, Canada and Finland at this tournament as well as the other seven nations competing, and has the potential to be some of the most exciting hockey we’ve seen in years.
