Trimble’s Drill of the Week- Middle Drive Tactical Passing Drill
- Position 4 equal lines on the neutral zone faceoff dots. Pucks are with the diagonal/ opposite lines.
- On the whistle side 1 will leave and skate towards the opposite lines – Line with puck goes from the boards to the middle- Line without the puck goes from the middle to the outside.
- The puck gets passed across the ice (one side to the other) and then the stationary lines pass across their own section of ice, before hitting the player coming down the middle of the ice with a pass
- Player with the puck, skating down the middle of the ice, will get to the red line before kicking it out (passing) to the player coming up the neutral zone boards.
- After the pass- Middle Lane player will keep skating to the net (Middle Drive), while player on the boards will carry the puck into the offensive zone and shoot- trying to either score or create a rebound for the middle drive player to put in the back of the net.
- Practice good habits like stopping on the net, flat passes, communicate, shot placement and much more.
- Make sure to alternate sides, and move the pucks to the other lines halfway through the drill so that players can practice receiving passes on both their forehand and backhand.
