Practicing Pattern Zone Entries
Practicing Pattern Zone Entries is essential for having your players develop good offensive habits when carrying the puck into the Offensive Zone
- Lines at all 4 hash marks
- On the whistle opposite lines at each end will begin the sequence, and leave without a puck heading towards the line with pucks on the other side of the zone they are starting from.
- Long pass, bumped back, and then outlet up as the players begin the 2-0 rush up their half of the ice.
- Try to skate with speed and flat passes up through the middle of the neutral zone, kicking it out to the player on the flank after you cross the redline.
- In the zone we are practicing a Cut and Drive sequence, where the middle lane rushes hard to the net as the flank player cuts behind them and shoots through a screen created by the middle drive.
- Other Entries including:
- POP- Pass Off Pad
- Middle redirect- flank sends a hard pass to the middle lane, and middle lane tries to redirect the puck towards and into the net
- Others
As always try to practice good habits with communication, setting targets and stopping on the net. Check out video for drill in action.
