Trimble’s Drill of the Week – Badger 2 v 1

Trimble’s Drill of the Week- Badger 2 v 1

Lines of Forwards at the bluelines and lines of defenseman in opposite diagonal corners. Pucks behind the net.

For the very start of the drill position a defenseman at the blueline. He will be replaced in the drill as the drill progresses.

On the whistle, defenseman will activate and pick up a puck from behind the net and start a breakout with the pair of forwards from the far blueline (who are now swinging into the zone near the puck). This will start a 2 v 1 rush against the defenseman at the blueline.

Once the forwards cross the redline with the puck, this starts the next group of forwards to begin entering the play as backcheckers against the 2 v 1. Also, the defenseman (who started the breakout 2v 1 rush) will gap up and follow the play.

2v1 will make a play on the net (then will then go to the end of the nearest lines). Once that happens a whistle ensues, starting the next 2 v 1. This begins – defenseman picks up puck behind the net, and breakout passes with the far group of forwards who entered the play as backcheckers. They will be defended by the defenseman who began the previous 2v1 at the other end.

Drill begins each time on a whistle.

Develops communication, scoring scenarios, awareness, breakout passes from defenseman and much more!

Enjoy!
