North Of The Border: Zachary Borgeil Standout Season In BCHL

Zachary Borgeil has done some travelling over his three seasons of junior hockey, spending time in four leagues. The 19 year old from Fort Gratiot, Michigan had an outstanding season in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) this year and is committed to play for Merrimack College next fall.

Borgeil played all of his youth hockey for the Honeybaked organization. During the 2013-14 season playing Bantam Minor he posted a .909SVS% with a 1.14 GAA in 11 games. With the Bantam Major team next season he followed it up with a .915SVS% and a 1.18GAA in 9 games. He has no statistics posted for the 2015-16 season, however he was selected in the 5th round, 93rd overall by the Niagra IceDogs in the OHL Priority Selection, he was also picked in the 9th round, 133rd overall by the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL Futures draft in 2016. During the 2016-17 season Borgeil played for the Honeybaked U16 team, in 11 games he had a .890 SVS% and a 2.70 GAA.

During the 2017-18 season, Borgeil played his first year of junior. He split time between the Brookings Blizzard of the NAHL and the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. While playing for Brookings he had a .890 SVS% and a 3.47 GAA in 15 games. He posted a .863 SVS% and a 3.66 GAA during his time in Muskegon. The following season Borgeil played his first of two seasons in Canada, with the Leamington Flyers of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL). He finished 3rd overall in goalie statistics with a .924SVS% and a 2.25 GAA in 28 games. This season he made the jump to the BCHL playing for the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Borgeil put up great numbers, finishing the season with a .923SVS% and a 2.55 GAA in 44 games.

In February this year, Borgeil committed to Merrimack college to play next season. We wish him the best going forward!
