With the 2020 WHL Bantam draft going on today I thought it was fitting to talk about another talent out of the WHL. Wyatte Wylie is a 1999 born defenseman who played 4 seasons for the Everett Silvertips. The Everett Washington native has played all but one season of hockey in Everett. After his second season playing for the Silvertips, Wylie was drafted in the 5th round of the 2018 NHL draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.
In his WHL draft year, playing for the Everett Jr. Silvertips bantam team Wylie
put up 17-34-51 along with 90PIMS in 46 games. This was good enough for the Silvertips to take him in the 6th round of the 2014 draft. The following season he played for the Jr. Silvertips 16U program, in 58 games he put up 26 total points. During the 2015-16 Wylie went and played for the Dallas Stars 16U program. In his only season there he finished will 11 points in 32 games.
The 2016-17 season is when Wylie made the jump to major junior hockey. In his rookie season, he posted 10 assists in 71 games. The following season he more than tripled his point total from the year before with 31 points in 72 games. After his second season in the WHL, he was drafted in the 5th round by the Philadelphia Flyers. In his third WHL season, he improved yet again by posting 47 points in 67 games. And finally, this season as an assistant captain he exploded for 64 points in 62 games.
Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 virus, we did not get to see Wyatte and the Silvertips make a run during the playoffs. We wish Wyatte well as he begins his pro career next season.
