Ty Nash has recently wrapped up his first year of junior hockey playing for the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The 16 year old from Phoenix, Arizona is the son of former NHL forward and WHL standout Tyson Nash. Ty, was a 9th round draft pick of the Hurricanes in 2018.
Growing up Nash played for both the Arizona Bobcats and Phoenix Jr. Coyotes youth organizations. During the 2016-17 season playing for the Jr. Coyotes Bantam Minor team he posted 7 assists in 15 games. The following season he went over to play for the Arizona Bobcats 14U program posting 8-6-14 points in 26 games. After his season with the Bobcats he was selected in the 9th round, 183rd overall by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the WHL bantam draft. After his draft year, Nash went back over to the Coyotes 15U organization where his offensive numbers really grew, he put up 15-16-31 in 24 games for the Coyotes.
This season Nash made the jump to major junior hockey, playing for the Lethbridge Hurricanes. His Dad, Tyson played in the WHL for the Kamloops Blazers for 4 seasons between 1991 and 1995. This season Ty put up 15 points in 59 games this season as a 16 year old in the WHL.
Unfortunately, the hockey season was cut short due to the COVID-19 outbreak so we won’t get to know what Nash’s playoff numbers would have been. After a successful first junior season, Nash will look to come back to the Hurricanes and improve upon his first season. We wish Ty the best going forward!
