Newly released court documents provide details surrounding the arrest of Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic on Saturday morning, following an alleged assault on his wife during an argument over a missing cellphone.
According to a police report, officers responded to Lucic’s North End apartment building shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday in response to a domestic disturbance call. Lucic’s wife informed officers that he had become violent after returning home from a night out, unable to find his phone and accusing her of hiding it.
Despite her denial, Lucic allegedly grabbed his wife by the hair and pulled her backward, preventing her from leaving. He also appeared intoxicated, according to the police report.
Officers observed redness on the victim’s chest but declined medical treatment. They also discovered a broken lamp and shards of glass on the bedroom floor, suggesting a struggle had taken place.
Lucic, who allegedly claimed the broken glass was plastic, was arrested without incident and is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday morning on one count of assault and battery on a family member. It remains unclear whether he has retained legal counsel.
In response to the incident, the Boston Bruins announced that Lucic is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team. The organization expressed its seriousness in addressing such matters and pledged to provide the Lucic family with necessary support and assistance.
