The Western States Hockey League (WSHL) lost its third team of the 2019-20 season today when the Meadow Lake Mustangs folded up shop. Their last game was an 8-4 loss at home this past Saturday night against Hinton.
Meadow Lake general manager Glen Winkler told the Northern Exposure newspaper’s Phil Ambroziak that the issue was player numbers. “We lost a number of players over the weekend – our second goalie pulled a hamstring, another player broke his finger, we had four suspensions and, finally, there were five no shows. When you’re only able to ice such a small number of players, that’s not junior hockey.”
Earlier in the year, the WSHL saw the Steamboat Wranglers and the West Sound Admirals fold. The league is now at 20 functioning teams.
