Waterloo Black Hawks
In week two of the USHL top prospects gamut, we look at the Waterloo Black Hawks. The Black Hawks finished the shortened season atop the Western Conference with a 33-14-2-0 record and 68 points and what looked to be a collision course with the Chicago Steel. Waterloo has many top prospects on their roster but these are the ones to keep an eye on in the 2020 NHL Draft.
Ryder Rolston – Forward
Having played only one season with the Black Hawks, Ryder made his presence known each and every night. He came from the USNTDP in 2019 after scoring a combined 50 goals and 30 assists. This past season he recorded 16 goals and 17 assists which were good enough for fifth on the team’s top scorers list.
He’s ranked #55 by Future Considerations and is ranked as a ‘B’ skater. The 6’1″ forward from Birmingham, MI will play for the University of Notre Dame next season as he waits to hear his name called somewhere between the second and fourth round of this year’s NHL Draft.
Wyatt Schingoethe – Center
Wyatt has been a part of the Black Hawks organization for the past two seasons and has been one of their most consistent players night in and night out. Each year he was one of the Black Hawks top point scorers with 33 and 38 and has committed to play for the University of Denver next year. He is ranked as a ‘C’ skater.
Patrick Guzzo – Center/Left Wing
The longest-tenured Black Hawk on this list is Patrick Guzzo from Marysville, MI. Patrick joined the Black Hawks for two games in the 2017-18 season and became a full-time starter in his next two seasons. He has a combined 40 points in two seasons with the Black Hawks but is known more for his locker room and ice leadership. The NHL Central Scouting Report has Guzzo listed as a ‘C’ skater.
Ondrej Psenicka – Right Wing
The last player on this list is Ondrej Psenicka, a forward from Praha, Czech Republic. This past season was the first for Ondrej playing hocked in the United States. It was a bit of a change for him after tallying 70 points for his club team a year prior. He lit up the scoreboard six times this year and had 12 assists, his fewest for a club team since the 2015-16 season. Ondrej is uncommitted as to what his plans for the future are, but he is listed as a ‘C’ skater on the NHL Central Scouting Report.
