Trimble’s Drill of the Week- Overspeed Shooting Warmup

Simple skill drill that gets the team and goalies warmed up for practice.

  • Lines at the Neutral Zone Dots with pucks
  • Players skating (alternating sides one at a time) from the inside of the ice to the outside.
  • Important to cross over and accelerate instead of tight turn the bottom of the circle (that is why the drill is called overspeed), with the puck, before passing back to the next person in line.
  • Open up or tight turn over the blue line into the neutral zone (onsides) and receive the puck back from the line.
  • Drive inside the dots and shoot.
  • Stop on the net- awaiting the next shooter in line (who starts once you pass back to the line).
  • Play a rebound if any are created.
  • Keep the drill moving, make sure the shots hit the net so goalies are warmed up.
  • See video- ENJOY
