For the 3rd year Czech Sports Camps and Daniel Cerny of DC Hockey have run a Czech Tryout Camp in Velke Popovice, Czech Republic.
This event featured players from nations such as France, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic and several others, and occurred over 3 consecutive days- April 26, 27 & 28th, 2024.
With 3 On Ice games, an On Ice Practice run by North American coaches, Interviews and seminars with North American programs, and hotel and meals included, the Czech Tryout is a fantastic opportunity for players all over the world to connect with coaches from overseas, learn about hockey in both the US and Canada, and develop their games in a beautiful part of Europe.
The location, just 30 minutes south of Prague is Velke Popovice. Velke Popovice is a small, rural village with wonderful charm and character. Home to the 150 year old Kozel brewery, the venue in Velke Popovice has both a hotel and restaurant attached to the rink, making it easy for players to interact with one another, stay and enjoy the local amenities. The rink seats several hundred spectators, and has great sightlines to see all the action. Players can keep their equipment at the rink, and also use the gym, located on the second floor of the building, to stretch and prepare themselves for the games.
In my trips to Czech and partaking this event, I have found it to be one of the most professional, well-run events in all of Junior Hockey, and I would encourage international players to learn more for future seasons. It is a great place to be seen, learn, train, develop, and have an awesome hockey experience.
