Players in hockey commonly experience lower back issues, hamstring or (especially with goalies) groin pulls and many more simple injuries that can be prevented with a proper stretching routine.
Furthermore, coaches and teams, can utilize the time before a game for team building, camraderie, and much more to mentally prepare themselves for the game ahead.
So dont waste this valuable opportunity… all ages and teams can mentally prepare and physically warmup to get ready for their games. Plus for many athletes its fun and will dramatically improve your preparedness and performance.
Here are some simple rules for a Pre Game stretch:
- Use simple stretches, but focus on your whole body (arms, back, legs, ankles and much more)
- Build from static stationary stretches into a more active routine
- Players once they complete the stretching routine, should have broken a little bit of a sweat during the warmup
From U8 to Pro, Stretching is a necessity and builds great habits!
