Trimble’s Drill of the Week – 7 Pass Warmup

7 Pass Warmup

  • Position 4 lines at each of the bluelines and 2 players on the bluelines facing the neutral zone
  • On the whistle, the first player in the opposite lines at each diagonal corner will skate with his/her puck towards the far player positioned on the blueline
  • Long pass to the far player, who one touches it back to the player from line moving. Player receives it and immediately returns the pass to the player on the blueline.
  • Timing is important so player who left from line will need to time it out to give and receive passes, set a good target and keep passes flat.
  • Once far player on blueline collects the return pass, he’ll pass cross ice to his partner on the blueline- who then pass to the player who left from line before returning the pass.
  • Back again cross ice on the blueline, before sending a long pass to the player who left from the line.
  • Long shot on goal and stop on the net- practice good habits.
  • Generally, I use this drill early in a practice to warm up our players both Forwards, Defenseman and goaltenders.
  • Requires timing, passing, and pass receiving, and communication.
  • See below video for the drill in action!
