Trimble’s Drill of the Week

Trimble's Drill of the Week - The Hockey Focus

RoughRiders Warmup

  • Position groups of players at each blueline, facing their goal lines. Pucks in all 4 corners.
  • Opposite sides by position on each of the Bluelines, for example- Defenseman line on the left and Forwards on the right, and at the other blueline Defenseman on the right, and Forwards on the left.
  • On the whistle Defenseman skate hard back to retrieve a puck from the corner they are closest to. Practice Good habits, heading back quickly to the puck, checking your shoulders, and surrounding the puck. On that same whistle, 1 Forward will open up, call for the puck and capture a pass from the defenseman to break the puck out of the zone (at each end).
  • Skate quickly with head up through the neutral zone, and shoot a long hard shot on the net.
  • Forwards should stop on the net, before releasing to the corner. Defenseman should gap up hard to the far blueline and be ready with their stick on the ice.
  • After the initial forward shot, the forward will stop on the net before releasing to the corner and picking up a new puck low in the zone. Defenseman should call for the puck, as the forward will give a Lo to HI pass from the corner with the new puck theyve retrieved and then skate hard back to the net.
  • Defenseman will walk the blue, stepping inside the dots, before releasing a point shot with the forward working back to the net.
  • Whistle blows to begin the next sequence on the other side.
  • Practice good habits and skate hard!
